Cashel
The famous Rock of Cashel proudly sits
200 ft high on the hillside and dominates the landscape for miles around
the town. The site contains a stunning Romanesque church, a medieval Cathedral,
a Tower House, a Round Tower , St. Patrick’s High Cross and the
15 th century ‘Hall of Vicars’. Indeed an architectural wonderland.
Bru Boru Heritage Centre and home of
the internationally known Irish music, song and dance group. The centre
has 2 performance theatres, restaurant, craft and information centre and
also a genealogy centre. |
G.P.A. Bolton Library,
Cashel , holds a collection of antiquarian books and rare manuscripts
dating from the 12 th century. There is also the altar ware that was used
in the original cathedral on the Rock of Cashel.
The Cashel Palace Hotel where Arthur Guinness
brewed his first pint of Guinness.
Cahir Castle
is one of Irelands largest and best-preserved castles situated on the
rocky island on the river suir. |
The Swiss Cottage
Cahir , a fairytale ornate cottage was built in the 1800’s
by Richard Butler, 1st Earl of Glengall, and was designed by Regency architect
John Nash as a fishing and hunting lodge.
Holy Cross Abbey was erected on the banks
of the river suir in 1169, located just outside the town of Thurles .
National G.A.A. Museum documenting the
hurling and football association of Ireland that was founded in Thurles
in 1884.
St.Mary’s Famine and Military museum
, Thurles, is on the site of the original 12 th century church built by
